Something GRISLY This Way Comes
Inspirations: A wide variety of GRISLY concept art was created throughout the development of the science-fiction/horror story. While the GRISLY short film depicts one small chapter of the overall universe, the two GRISLY comic series on ComiXology expand upon that initial story as well as the other short stories, summaries, and concepts presented on this website. The GRISLY story was shaped over time from various influences. Early inspirations came from the classic The Creature From The Black Lagoon and its two sequels as well as other science-fiction/horror b-movies from the 1950's. Artist Christopher Bonnette's drawing of the English folklore hag Peg Powlers and two of her sisters (see below) helped change the gender and headcount to a tribe of wild female swamp creatures living on the run from government agents in the bayous of Louisiana.
From there the story continued to evolve. Cable and TV shows such as True Blood, X-Files, Dark Shadows, and the Night Stalker, as well as the team of "archaeologists of the impossible" from Warren Ellis and John Cassaday's epic comic series Planetary added kindling to the brewing fire as a team started to slowly form. Today, GRISLY is now the story of Grisly Unit (aka G-Unit), a team of paranormal investigators recently activated by the President. They are modern day monster hunters, fighting the evil Nephilim from the Bible and also ACS, a private military company wanting the creatures for their own nefarious purposes.
